Human Rights Day is celebrated every December 10th to create awareness and mobilize political will to promote respect for the rights and freedoms enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948.

The 2022 theme of Human Rights Day is Dignity, Freedom, and Justice for All.

On that note, I’d like to share a powerful talk by Angela Glover Blackwell, an American attorney, civil rights advocate, and author, who notes that our ability to change the world for the better hinges on us coming to grips with our context. In this impactful presentation, she crystalizes how we can get on the road to getting it right. If we are to have a truly inclusive democracy, she says, we’re going to have to do 3 things:

1. Understand the history

2. Understand that equity/inclusion is not a zero-sum game

3. Engage in transformative solidarity
